Defining “DAO”

• Will the word DAO disappear over time?
• DAO = a shorthand for a culture we're building
• "DAO" can sometimes becomes an excuse for the shortcomings of the organisation.
• Web3 / a certain approach to DAOing can look like the gig economy

Pain points

• DAOs / communities need to clarify purpose
  • Build the muscle of agreement (regarding things like debates at work, discussing complicated, difficult topics)
  • Avoid the “business model desert”
• Lack of context for new joiners
• Huge barriers to entry
• There’s so much pressure to explain exactly what it (DAOs, new models for community and collaboration) is - this progressive struggle to explain creates anxiety as the info travels down the line - for example to VCs and their representatives
• Communities are silo'd
• The cultural assumptions of what means what can get in the way and make synchronized communication difficult.
• Privacy is a luxury and people want space. There are tensions between those two things when people are operating in such transparent spaces
