Report Contribution FAQ

Resources ‣ S5 Community Report

Tl;dr

From Season 5 onwards, we are inviting our members to contribute to the co-creation of a Dirty Word report with Protein Agency in order to create synergies across all the elements of our ecosystem, generating new opportunities for our members to contribute and new value-creation and distribution models.

The purpose of this playbook is to define the key ingredients and ways of working to create a Minimum Viable Report in order for it to be effectively and efficiently replicated.

This Playbook will form part of the final deliverable at the end of the season, so is very much a live document that we will be building, updating, and evolving as we go. We encourage you to comment and contribute to both this Playbook and the Community report itself!

Our vision:

Building on the legacy of Protein Agency’s work we believe our Community is the perfect test bed to develop new forms of collective and collaborative knowledge. We envision a future where new forms of cultural sense-making and collective knowledge can be fostered by a “reports protocol”, an open-source framework for creating reports, enabling new qualities of reporting and higher frequency, breadth, and scalability that would allow the cultural tastemakers that align with our values to create their own Protein-powered reports.

Context

Season 4: From a “team-centric” to a “project-centric” structure

With season 4, we announced 2 major updates to our community:

  1. our very own merge, bringing into the same picture community, agency, and studios.
  2. an organizational restructuring that would shift the Protein community from a team-centric to a project-centric structure.

We believe that the power of ideas can empower our members by making them ag

This first experiment created a lot of energy and momentum, we saw discussions firing up, and had a few projects applying for and winning grants like Fostery, led by MathewK, and Supplement, led by Ben Culpin.

Season 5: From a seasonal input to a seasonal output

Looking back at what Protein Projects achieved in season 4, we wanted to continue tweaking the model and focus on concrete outputs.

We want our projects to be impactful and generate actual results. We want to create a platform that offers a rewarding experience for the members of the community and, at the same time, generates value for the wider ecosystem.

As a community that has a lot of breadth in interests, topics, and initiatives, we thought of ways we could make all our contributions build up creating a collective body of work that can generate value for our community.

To reach this, we introduced:

The seasonal theme (Input):

The seasonal theme is agreed upon among core members of the Protein ecosystem. It is an overarching theme that will serve as a compass to orient our community and initiatives toward a shared direction.

The seasonal report (output):

Protein Community is a pool of talents with the potential to create and generate high-value collective output. In Season 5 we will all work toward the creation of a solid and co-created report that will become a source of value generation and re-distribution.

Collaborative “Dirty Words” Report

Protein Agency’s Dirty Words Report Series

Dirty Words is a report format created by Protein Agency that explores words and topics whose point of adoption has made them lose their true meaning. Think of these as ‘dirty words’, whose original meaning has been modified by cultural shifts. Previous Dirty words reports were centered around exclusivity, influence, and ownership.

The next Dirty Word: Community

As a result of the synergies that we are fostering between the elements of our ecosystems, agency, studios, and community we saw an opportunity to create something of greater meaning when considering decentralizing the research process throughout our community. Can the next dirty words report be co-created? We believe so, so let’s start working on it, exploring the meaning of a word that might have lost its true meaning, “community”.

The balance between Control & Freedom

Contributing to tokenized communities and DAOs is not easy and it is our responsibility to minimize the effort and the fatigue in finding points of touch with our mutual needs. Protein will offer to its members two main contribution venues that cater towards:

Minimum Viable Report (Draft)

The minimum viable report is what is needed to ensure we can deliver a report that meets both Protein Agency’s standards and timelines. An editorial team, made by both agency and community core team members will lead this process creating clear entry points for contribution via a dedicated bounty board.

Existing initiatives feeding into Report

The existing Protein channels and platforms we are utilising to explore the seasonal theme becoming a useful source of research for the collective report:

These are all initiatives that will generate opportunities to contribute and participate. Even though these initiatives are stewarded by our core team, keep an eye on the ‣ for any opportunity to contribute. If you have ideas or see room for improvement where we don’t see it, don’t hesitate to let us know, and the project lead will be in touch.

Community-Led Research Groups

Protein is both a global brand consulting working with some of the world's biggest brands as well as a novel tokenized community that among many other objectives, aims to facilitate emergence. The collective report is a vehicle for us to redefine the balance between control and letting things go. We envision the report as a composable body of work made by contributions of various entities, values, and forms.

What makes the most sense to us, is to involve our community in the surfacing of insights, on exploring new forms and venues of research by enabling members to form and lead research groups and start collaborating with our ecosystem.

Community-led content generation & agency-led curation

The report itself will be redacted by an editorial team that will curate the community-generated content into a report ensuring that the deliverable will meet the highest standards. As this is our first attempt in co-creating something that will be in dialogue with the Protein Agency, we opted for this type of balance between community-led content generation and agency-led curation.

Community Research Group Journey

If season 4 marked the shift from a team-centric to a project-centric organization, it is because we believe that great ideas have the power to connect people with shared aspirations and provide greater chances to forge strong relationships.

In Season 5, through the collective report, we are offering everyone the chance to pitch to our editorial team and to our community ideas that matters, that are worth exploring, and around which research can be developed collectively, connecting people within a high potential network.

We believe that cultural insights and behaviours can be better captured, decoded, and narrated by a distributed network of contributors who live and breathe these trends.

This process is an experiment, something that we invite you all to be part of, ensuring that we will do our best to facilitate the conditions to:
